The London Mine on Mosquito Pass… There was another Jeep at the mine and he said he was going to try going on over the pass. Another vehicle followed him and I said I would bring up the rear when I finished taking pictures. We never caught up with them and there was only one place where there was a snow bank partially blocking the road so we just put one wheel up on the snow drift and easily made our way through it.

Here’s a shot from inside the remains of the North London Gold Mill. There were some people at the mill that said they had just come over Mosquito Pass….. they said, “ There is only one snow bank you have to put one side of the Jeep up on to get by…but do-able”. So we headed on towards to summit.

So let’s head for the high country…As we start up the 4WD road over Mosquito Pass the first old building we come to is the old North London Gold Mill. You can see “Ruby” parked out in front with the Mosquito Range in the background. We did this trip on July 19, 2009. Actually a Forest Ranger in Fairlay told me earlier in the day that Mosquito Pass was still closed because of snow and that it was not expected to be open until about August 1… Nonetheless, we decided to give it a try…..:0)

To get to Mosquito Pass (the highest vehicular pass in the United States) we first need to go through Fairplay, Colorado. There is a lot to see in Fairplay, but we are only going to show this one building…the Sheldon Jackson Memorial Chapel that was built in 1872 and is still being actively used as a church.
