Another half mile or so above the cliff hanger we pass the Imogene Pass turnoff, and eventually come the remains of the ghost town of Sneffels and the Revenue Mill and Tunnel. Sneffels was founded in 1875 (originally called “Porters”) and had a peak population of about 2,000. The Revenue Tunnel supplied access to the Virginius Mine that once had 600 workers and produced gold and silver worth one billion dollars in today’s market.
