Photo for 08/29/2006

En route to the summit of Mt. McClellan we next pass the site of the old ghost town of Waldorf, Colorado The town was burnt to the ground in the early 1970’s so nothing remains today. However, I did get some black and white photos of the town in 1971 and using those photos and a photo taken by a photographer friend, Ron Ruhoff I built the above diorama of the town. An article about how I built the models and the diorama was published in the Jan/Feb issue of the Narrow Gauge and Short Gazette (model railroad magazine). The building that is second from the far end was the Post Office which was said to be at an elevation of 11,666 feet…the highest in the United States.
